Status of Goose Lake Redband Trout
The long term health of this fish is tied closely to the health of the general population of Goose Lake redband trout that reside in the headwaters of the steams flowing into Goose Lake. Drought resulted in extirpation of the resident fish in Goose Lake. Later recovery points to a likely colonization of the lake from these critical headwater populations.
Conservation Efforts Underway
Conservation is taking place throughout the Goose Lake watershed. Private and public efforts are underway to restore streams by changing land use patterns and removing or modifying barriers to migration. These efforts will likely brighten the future of the Goose Lake redband.
